Turenzhai is a ceramic brand under Longquan Turenzhai Celadon Culture Communication Co., Ltd., founded in 2014 by Chen Yanbo, a recognized master craftsman at the provincial level in Zhejiang. Since its inception, Turenzhai has been dedicated to the inheritance and innovation of the Longquan kiln ceramic tradition, focusing on both functional and artistic works. The brand embraces a wide range of classic techniques from the Longquan kiln system and boasts a creative team that includes many outstanding contemporary artisans, designers, and artists specializing in this heritage.
Upholding Tradition, Passing Down by Heart and Hand
The artisans of Turenzhai continue the philosophical essence of Longquan celadon — the harmony between man and nature. Rooted in a humble spirit like the clay they mold, they infuse dedication, patience, and perseverance into every step of their craft. Through oral instruction and hands-on guidance, they pass down not only techniques but also deep respect for tradition.
Refined Through Complex Craftsmanship
Each piece undergoes over 20 meticulous steps — from kneading the clay, throwing on the wheel, trimming and shaping, to carving and glazing — all strictly following ancient methods. A distinctive feature lies in the double firing process: first a bisque firing, then a glaze firing in wood-fired dragon kilns at temperatures exceeding 1300°C. Natural mineral glazes produce iconic celadon colors such as "Fenqing" and "Meiziqing," resulting in finishes that are smooth as jade and glossy as a mirror.
“Auspicious Cloud” Fruit Plate: A Modern Interpretation of Cultural Symbols
A representative work, the Auspicious Cloud Fruit Plate, features traditional cloud motifs symbolizing reunion and blessings. The glaze resembles “a thousand peaks of emerald green,” with simple, elegant lines. Its design bridges classical symbolism with modern living, making it a meaningful cultural gift for festivals like Mid-Autumn.
The Philosophy of Celadon Green
The beauty of celadon is captured in the ancient praise: “green as jade, bright as a mirror, thin as paper, resonant as a chime.” Turenzhai centers its aesthetics on the color green, interpreting the purity and restraint of Eastern design, echoing the traditional Chinese philosophy that likens moral virtue to jade.
Intangible Heritage Promotion and International Exchange
Turenzhai actively participated in the inauguration of the Longquan Kiln Research Center at the Palace Museum in 2019, helping bring celadon to the global stage. Its works have appeared at world expos, APEC, and G20 summits, serving as diplomatic gifts that represent China’s cultural elegance.
Cultural Tourism and Public Involvement
Through the “Unextinguished Kiln Fire” cultural tourism project, the workshop opens its doors for public visits and hands-on dragon kiln firing experiences, inviting broader participation in living heritage. In places like Xitou Village of Baoxi Township, such activities have become highlights of cultural tourism.
Innovative Daily Use
By adapting traditional forms into practical items such as teaware and fruit plates, Turenzhai brings celadon into everyday life, breaking the boundary between heritage and daily use — allowing intangible cultural heritage to become part of the modern home.
Turenzhai’s Creative Categories
Turenzhai’s brand spans four major categories of handcrafted creations: tea ware, incense ware, spatial decor ware, and lifestyle-inspired vessels. Each piece is crafted to reflect the user’s pursuit of aesthetic living. By offering versatile designs suited for home, social, and cultural settings, Turenzhai aims to help users express personal taste through elegant yet practical objects.
The brand’s mission is to create beautiful, functional vessels that embody both refined sensibility and cultural resonance — fostering a lifestyle rooted in traceable traditions and intentional beauty. Through this, Longquan celadon can be better seen, understood, and appreciated in contemporary life.
This vision stems from the brand’s core philosophy, articulated by founder Chen Yanbo:
“To cultivate character through crafting; to bring vessels into meaningful use.”
It is not only a long-term aspiration, but a present, hands-on practice — shaping each piece, step by step, by hand and by heart.
